The Pain Of Being Arsene Wenger

Will his many travails ever end?
When Mesut Ozil strutted into the Emirate in the summer of 2013, every Arsenal fan was hugely excited by the arrival of the German play maker. Fast forward to Feb 20, 2014 and it is almost unbelievable to find every Arsenal fan gunning for his head on a stake.  Mikel Arteta has revealed he has never seen Arsene Wenger as angry as he was at half-time during Arsenal's humiliating defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. A disastrous match in which Ozil's mistake led to three quick fire goals from Liverpool in the first half. The Gunners were 4-0 down after 19 minutes and went on to lose the match 5-1 at Anfield, relinquishing top spot in the Premier League to Chelsea.

Arsenal who also suffered a 6-3 loss to Manchester City back in December, also failed to bounce back against Manchester United last week on home turf. That stifled display all but marked the loss of the Premier League crown. Arsene who had to endure a humiliating 8-2 loss to the current Champions has also had to watch some of his best talent join other teams. A certain Van Persie immediately comes to bear. The flying dutchman signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2012 and  immediately won his first league title after a barren eight year barren spell at the Emirates.

Those who have forced a move or been shown the door have racked up a staggering 75 trophies between them since Arsenal beat Manchester United on a penalty shootout to win the FA Cup.
Were the likes of Patrick Vieira, Ashley Cole, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas disloyal when they decided their only chance of further glory lay away from Arsenal?
Their trophy cabinets, filled with League, FA Cup and European medals, would suggest they made the right decision.

Wenger buries his face in agony and could barely watch as Liverpool ripped his team to shred with sheer precision
While some might argue that the trouble at Manchester United is more mind buggling than at Arsenal, well David Moyes is in his first season at a legendary club where even the famous Sir Alex could not manage a trophy for his first six years in charge. In contrast, Wenger has produced iconic and vintage teams who blew oppositions apart when he took over in 96. He created the " invincibles" the only team in Premier League history to go an entire season unbeaten. Indeed they were a joy to watch and have been the only team to really stifle the dominance of Manchester United. They were full of spine and steel.  Truth be told, only Van Persie will make it into that team if he was still a gunner. Ray Parlor, Viera, Bergkamp, Overmars and co were miles ahead of this current squad. That begs the question, where did it all go wrong for Wenger? Indeed the excuse of the stadium is begining to sound stale even to the most honest Arsenal fans.

The were great once: Arsenal won the Premier League crown in 2003-04 season and they were unbeaten

The 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool was too much for the feeble legs Wenger to take. He is pictured crashing to the floor as he headed to the bus after the game.
Arsenals bad night was compounded when a poor penalty saved by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the opening stages of the game. Arsenal would rue the miss, as goals from Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller gave Bayern a comfortable advantage to take back to Germany after Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny had been sent off four a foul on Arjen Robben.

Surely a season that seemed to represent light at the end of the tunnel is gradually becoming as nightmarish as the last eight. They have lost ground to a rampaging Manchester City and Chelsea are getting stronger as the season draws to a close. The FA cup is even glimmer than the League and the Champions League is all but a dream now as they will need a miracle to knock out the current best team in the world led by an iconic coach who is definitely in a class of his own.
Mouhrinho has been full of criticism of Wenger lately. Calling him a master of failure
Arsenal fans would be right to blame their coach for their troubles because of the following; his decision to continuously sell his best players and replace them with mediocre's, his refusal to buy a world class striker in the summer as well as in January, his reliance on the resurgence of a free scoring Aaron Ramsey without considering the x-factor are some of the reasons why they will be right to put the blame on him. Besides, if he isn't drinking the same punch as the Board he would have since thrown in the towel after giving them an ultimatum. As for trophies, it appears they have to wait another football year.
