Agony For Manchester United In The Land Of The gods As Olympus Put Red Devils To The Sword
Watching Manchester United's abysmal display against Greek side Olympiakos on Tuesday it seemed as though the English side were up against the gods themselves. In a land famed by its ancient mythology of gods and sky battles, some might say it was a poor performance by the red devils by some miles, but we are very sure it is the worst performance by any Manchester United side in history. Unlike Arsenal and Manchester City last week, Manchester United had their full complement on the field. It just wasnt good enought. This may well be the worst performance of David Moyes’s brief time as United manager, the one that really will cause questions to be asked about his suitability to lead the illustrious club.
Moyes was a sight of despair as his team fell to a better technical team in Olympiacos |
Lets be real, David is a man whose appointment as United's manager surprised the footballing world at the time he was announced as coach.. Fans who are calling for his sack seemed to be justified when the same under performing side filed out on resumption of the second half. Tom Cleverly, Rio Ferdinand, Valencia, Young did not deserve to finish that match if more than three changes could be made. Add that to the stuttering and fearful demenour of Chris Smalling and the home side had a field day ripping through the United team like knife through butter.
The only shine of sun in Manchester United all season; David De Gea could do nothing about Campbells sublime strike |
United were so ordinary, so lifeless, so devoid of ambition and desire against the Greek champions that there may well soon be a tipping point.
This, however, was the kind of display that gets a manager the sack and deservedly so— one that brings into dispute matters of selection, direction and motivation. This was a United seldom seen. Timid, inadequate, uninspired and without a sense of urgency about them that they would not even dare to dream about under the feisty Alex Ferguson.
